This proverb has endured for 100s of years. There are numerous versions of this story. Here is one version.
There was once a powerful ruler. He commanded his wise men to invent a sentence that would always be true, in any situation.
After much work, his wise men finally had the answer. They had written a sentence that would always be true.
The king's sages took the sentence and engraved it into a ring. They told the king to only look at the phrase in time of great need. Since the King knew how wise his sages were, he followed their advice, and did not read the proverb in the ring.
Years passed. The king was fleeing his kingdom on horseback after his enemies attacked. He was riding on his horse through the forest and could hear his enemies horses catching up to him.? At this point, There was no more road in front of the king. He saw a steep cliff. There was no chance of survival. What to do? Face his enemies, where he was hopelessly outnumbered, or plunge to his death?
All seemed lost. After all of these years, the king finally read the saying in his ring.
The magical phrase is simply:
This Too Shall Pass
He smiled to himself. The sages had done well. He noticed the sound of his enemies getting weaker . They had not seen his trail. The king eventually regrouped his armies and conquered his enemies, and yes, probably lived happy ever after, as is popular in such tales.
Think of how much truth is?in these 4 words.
When you are sad, they can make you happy. When you are elated, these four words can bring you back to reality. So when you feel like the king in this story ... Try to meditate on the words: "This Too Shall Pass". See what truth you find.
